Pasture-raised USDA Certified Organic eggs – ‘Vital Farms’ & ‘Pasture Verde’

No matter which of our pasture-raised eggs we’re talking about, we start with the very same natural pastures, pastures never treated with herbicides, pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Keeping our birds on fresh pasture is a labor-intensive process – on some farms we move the hens at night onto new areas, on others we move the fencing when the girls aren’t looking. Regular rotation keeps our pastures resilient and covered in vegetation – and naturally fertilized by the ladies themselves!

Our very first pasture-raised eggs were organic, so that’s the standard that we have across all our farms, from Georgia to California, and several states in between! And every time we add a new farm, those are the standards that they have to measure up to be able to call themselves a Vital Farmer.

The USDA’s Organic standards mean more than just a rubber stamp on the supplemental food that we provide our ladies – it’s a complete system that applies across the whole farm – from the chicks that we bring in to the wash that we clean the eggs with on their way out!

We are proud that each hen enjoys a minimum of 108 square feet of space per bird to roam free. This combination of space and vegetation creates a perfect environment for our girls to behave in a natural and instinctive way, foraging, perching and roaming just as they might in the wild.

The only difference between our various pasture-raised egg brands is in the supplemental feed that we provide them. While a hen can live on grass alone, chickens do need to consume a total of about 4oz daily (18% of which needs to be protein) to lay eggs regularly, so for our Vital Farms Organic Eggs and our Pasture Verde eggs we provide them with an organic supplemental feed. We source the very best USDA Certified Organic feed, which is free from GMO ingredients, hormones, antibiotics and pesticides.

As demand has grown, we’ve been able to add a range of pasture-raised eggs to cater to a wider audience, but always following the same basic farming principals. If 100% organic certification is not an absolute must for you, then you may want to consider one of our other pasture-raised eggs.
