2007: The Beginning
Matt O’Hayer started Vital Farms with 20 Rhode Island Red hens on a 27-acre farm. Small beginnings, with a big belief: there had to be a better way to bring ethical food to the table.
2013: Growing Differently
Vital Farms continues to scale; instead of making Matt’s farm bigger, we find other like-minded farmers to work with.
2017: Welcome, ECS!
We opened Egg Central Station in Springfield, Missouri, our first egg processing facility. It gave us a central location to wash, pack, and ship eggs before heading out to grocery shelves across the country.
2020: We Go Public
We became a publicly traded company on Nasdaq. It was a big milestone, but our approach stayed the same: build a strong business while considering the people, animals, and communities that helped us get here.
Today: 600+ Family Farms
What started with one farm has grown into a network of more than hundreds of family farms. Different farms, different families, one shared commitment to caring for hens and bringing ethically produced food to more tables.
