What You Bring To The Table
At Vital Farms, we work to raise the standards in everything we do. Our farmers must be committed to the welfare of their animals, the stewardship of their land, and the maintenance of their farm.
Land
Room to grow
Each of our hens needs a minimum of 108 square feet of pasture. Our egg farms require at least 52 acres for 20,000 birds, or 26 acres for 10,000 birds.
Location
In the Pasture Belt
Our farm network is expanding across the Pasture Belt. Prospective Vital Farms egg farmers should be located in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, or Tennessee.
Financing
Financial Commitment
The construction of a barn is a considerable financial commitment. Our farmers often work with lenders to finance the investment. Prospective farmers should be prepared to consider a loan or invest their savings.

To make sure Vital Farms is a good fit for you, please confirm you have each of the below:
- A farm located in the Pasture Belt or in areas we’re currently expanding: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Ohio
- The ability to dedicate 26+ acres of land (or are in the process of purchasing this land)
- The ability to invest in a Vital Farms barn, which can cost as much as $1.2 million
- The time and dedication to commit yourself to animal welfare and proper management of your farm
