We Believe in The Future of Farming

At Vital Farms, our purpose is simple: to improve the lives of people, animals, and the planet through food. When we care for all three, we help build a food system that’s ethical and built to last.

People: Helping Farmers Grow

Vital Farms began with just 20 hens on one small family farm. Now, we work with more than 600 small farms that care deeply for their hens and land.

While our farmers are in business for themselves, they’re never by themselves. Vital Farms is with them every step of the way. Just like teachers help students learn and grow, we support our farmers so they can feel proud of their farms – and help the next generation of farmers grow, too.

Animals: Happy Hens, Healthy Land

Our hens (aka the girls) supply our pasture-raised eggs. Our network of farmers puts the welfare of their animals first. No matter on which farm the eggs were laid, you can take heart knowing that each hen has freedom to forage on open pasture, feasting on a natural buffet of native grasses and bugs while enjoying fresh air and sunshine.

It’s like you enjoying recess – you have the freedom to move, explore, and connect. When hens get access to the outdoors, they can express their natural behaviors including dust bathing, perching on logs, and socializing with their flock (like Mother Nature intended).

Planet: Building with Care

At Vital Farms, caring for animals, land, air, and water is just part of how we farm — working with nature, not against it.

Our egg farmers do not use pesticides or herbicides on their pastures. The hens also move to a new patch of pasture every 21 days (known as Pasture Rotation), which gives the land time to rest. And while the hens peck and scratch, they help the soil, too. Think of them as tiny gardeners, mixing up the dirt and returning nutrients to the ground.

We also think about the air. When we built our Egg Central Station facility to get our eggs ready for stores and restaurants, we chose Springfield, Missouri, because it was close to our farms. That way, the eggs don’t have to travel far, which means fewer truck trips and cleaner air.

We treat the planet like a shared playground – when we take care of it, it stays clean, and everyone gets to enjoy it.
