Overview of the Role
The core responsibility of the Materials and Production Planner is to convert customer orders into short term production schedules, optimizing site labor and equipment utilization.  Included will be responsibility for material planning for raw material, and packaging, supporting egg and butter production at three manufacturing locations. This role requires close collaboration with Operations, Logistics, Sales and Marketing, suppliers, and customers; strong influence skills will be critical, as well as an exceptional ability to solve problems and manage risk. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop production schedules that are optimized using run rules and demonstrated outputs
  • Must have ability to become highly knowledgeable of the portfolio, regarding run rules, labor utilization, raw material & packaging requirements, sanitation and quality requirements which will involve managing constraints. Must have the ability to explain and communicate run rules / constraints to stakeholders
  • Manage raw material and packaging requirement planning to ensure adequate supply levels while balancing inventory cost impact, production requirements, inbound transportation logistics, and internal storage parameters. Will work with the suppliers to address service or capacity issues. Will escalate recurring supplier issues to the site Logistics Manager
  • Monitor and adjust raw material days of supply and inventory rotation strategies
  • Establishes strong relationships with key stakeholders: Suppliers, Site Leaders, Sales and Marketing, Commercialization teams, Quality, Maintenance, Transportation. When issues arise, the Materials and Production Planner will take the lead on identifying solutions and working across the organization to problem solve without compromising product supply
  • Must maintain pertinent parameters in the planning files, manage & maintain bill of materials in a manual planning system, ensuring a high integrity of data
  • Work with centralized team to ensure development and utilization of best methods (software tools) for forecasting, production, raw material and packaging planning
  • Supports site productivity and commercialization projects which impact operations, labor utilization, and equipment outputs. Many projects will require a capacity analysis to be performed in collaboration with other stakeholders
  • Develop and own cycle counting procedure
  • Develop personal discipline to ensure floor presence and understanding of operating systems within the production and logistics environment
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain, Business Management
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in material and production planning, warehousing and transportation operations
  • Ability to be effective in a position that demands adaptability and flexibility
  • Ability to interact with and influence people at all levels of the organization and external to the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational/prioritization skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks in a tight time frame
  • Strong computer skills including extensive knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) and aptitude to learn advanced planning tools
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work cross functionally and across organizations
  • Demonstrate strong accountability, consistency and follow-through skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Proven experience in leadership / supervisory roles
