Classic Monte Cristo Sandwich
This decadent sandwich, layered with ham, turkey, and cheese, is dipped in egg and griddled to melty perfection. It's served alongside raspberry preserves for dipping, for the ultimate sweet and savory combo.

Ingredients
- 1 Vital Farms Egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 slices soft bread such as brioche or sandwich bread
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 2 slices deli turkey, thinly sliced
- 2 slices deli ham, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup Gruyere cheese, grated
- 1 tablespoon Vital Farms Unsalted Butter
- powdered sugar
- raspberry jam or preserves, for serving
Instructions
- In a wide, shallow bowl or dish, whisk together the egg and milk. Set aside.
- Spread the mustard on the inside of both pieces of bread. Layer one side up with the turkey, ham, and cheese. Place the top piece of bread on.
- Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Once warm, add the butter to melt.
- Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture, flipping to coat both sides thoroughly.
- Add the sandwich to the skillet and cook until golden-brown, about 2 minutes. Flip and cook other side until golden-brown and cheese has melted, about another 2 minutes.
- Transfer the sandwich to a plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, slice in half diagonally, and serve alongside a small bowl of raspberry jam for dipping.
