One of the most important tenets here at Vital Farms is that our girls get to be outdoors all year-round, which isn’t the same for all eggs that make the pasture-raised claim. You see, some brands are “seasonally pastured” which means their girls get to enjoy fresh air and sunshine for some of the year – but the other part of the year, they’re cooped up indoors just like cage-free hens.
There’s already so much confusion between cage-free, free-range and pasture-raised, but there’s an easy way to tell: choose ‘Pasture-raised’ with the Certified Humane seal. That’s the only way to know for sure that your eggs were laid by girls that get to spend almost every day of the year outside (we do keep the girls indoors if the weather gets real bad, but whats only for their safety, and only for a limited number of days).
The reason our ladies are so lucky is because all of our farms are located in what we like to call the pasture-belt. From California to Georgia, the pasture-belt spans across the southern U.S. in areas where there is little to no snowfall, and whatever snow there may be doesn’t stick around for long. Outdoor goodies are very important to their diet and in the nutrition of the eggs that they lay for you to enjoy, and outdoor living also keeps our girls strong and healthy.
Our girls are #HappyOutdoors 12 months of the year, but it’s especially important to remember this during the winter months when other birds aren’t as fortunate. So to celebrate our girls’ freedom to forage, we’re giving you an easy way to win some swag + a Vital dozen, and we’ll be choosing a different winner every week this winter.
- Show us where you’re #HappyOutdoors on Instagram and Twitter by posting a photo of yourself enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, and using the hashtags #HappyOutdoors and #VitalFarms. Or you can submit your entry on our Facebook page (leave us a comment!).
- We’ll pick a new winner each week! The winner’s photo will be reposted on our social media, and they’ll receive one free dozen eggs + their choice of a girls on grass tee OR Vital Farms beanie.
That’s it! So get snapping y’all and show us what makes you #HappyOutdoors!
