Vital Farms: From tiny farm to national success (and our values never changed)

Vital Farms began in 2007 when our first organic hens were set loose on the pastures of our flagship farm on Onion Creek in Austin, Texas. Our goal then was simple, and it still is. Respect the birds and the land, and produce the highest quality, most delicious eggs in the world. While most producers who think “bigger is better” dominate the egg industry, we focus on the labor-intensive process of caring for hens in small flocks while allowing them plenty of space to roam.

We have grown considerably since then. We started locally, by selling our eggs at Farmer’s Markets and a few restaurants in Austin, Texas.  Five years later, our eggs are available in 50 United States and we were named one of the Nation’s fastest growing companies by Inc. Magazine.  Besides welcoming new producers on small family farms, we haven’t changed much. We function and are successful because we work together with independent family farmers who are as passionate about raising quality food as we are. Our farmers and crew members understand that our core farming principles are what makes our eggs special.

I’m so glad your company is doing well! I only eat pastured eggs now, and usually I buy two dozen Vital Farms eggs per week. Your pastured eggs are vastly superior to normal eggs and even organic eggs, in both flavor and appearance, and I prefer them to most locally raised eggs for their consistency in size. Please keep up the good work!
